Graeme van Buuren and Jack Taylor selected as Gloucestershire captains for the 2024 season

25 March 2024

Gloucestershire Cricket is pleased to confirm that Head Coach Mark Alleyne has selected Graeme van Buuren and Jack Taylor as captains for the 2024 season.

Heading into his ninth season with the Club and third as captain, van Buuren will continue to lead the side in the Vitality County Championship.

Jack Taylor will lead the side in the Vitality Blast and Metro Bank One-Day Cup, with the Shire looking to build on a 2023 campaign that saw the Club reach the semi-final of the 50-over competition and finish 7th in the Blast South Group.

Speaking on his selection of the two captains for the 2024 season, Head Coach Mark Alleyne, said:

"Graeme and Jack have been charged with leading the groups in red ball and white ball cricket, respectively. Both have previous experience in these roles and have convinced me that they have the desire to continue.

"It’s important we have some stability within the leadership group, especially with so many changes to the support coaching group.

"In Championship cricket, Graeme is in a good position to challenge in the middle order and compete fiercely to get us in the top two in our division. We have put a strong emphasis on middle-order contributions this year and his runs have always been really valuable in that area.

"In the shorter formats, Jack has constantly shown great leadership qualities that I saw first-hand on the pre-season tour. His appetite is high, it’s something he really wants to do, and he has the full support of the rest of the group. He also remains in a constant threat with the bat in white ball cricket, scoring at a rate that others find hard to compete with."

On his third season leading the red ball side, Graeme van Buuren, said:

“It’s an honour to lead the team in the County Championship and I’m really proud Mark has put his faith in me as captain of the red ball side.

"We’ve had a really successful pre-season tour and as a group, we’re determined to make a big impact in Division Two this year.”

Re-appointed white ball captain, Jack Taylor, said:

"I'm really looking forward to leading the boys in both white ball formats this year. There’s a great feel amongst the camp after a successful tour to South Africa.

"We have some great options across the squad to compete in both the T20 and 50-over competitions, along with the overseas additions.

"It’s an exciting time at the club and I’m looking forward to playing a part in bringing some more success and putting on a show for our fans at Bristol and Cheltenham."
