Sax On Song Again For Second XI
22 April 2014
Ian Saxelby claimed four wickets as a strong Surrey side ran up 347-7 declared on the opening day of the Second XI Championship match at Bristol.
The seamer finished with 4-41 from 18 overs to further strengthen his bid for first team selection.
But a century from South African Tom Curran and important contributions from Arun Harinath (95) and wicketkeeper Adam Rouse (83) guided the visitors into a strong position after they had won the toss.
Jack Taylor claimed 2-69 from 16 overs and Liam Norwell 1-89 from 18.1 overs on a testing day for the bowlers.
By the close Gloucestershire openers Benny Howell and Dan Housego had put four runs on the board in reply.
Surrey’s team includes the vastly experienced Gareth Batty and seam bowler Tim Linley. The match continues today, 11am start.
