Gloucestershire Second XI Fixtures confirmed

29 January 2019

The Gloucestershire Second XI fixtures have been published today.

2019 will see the team begin their campaign with a two-day friendly against local rivals Somerset at Millfield on Sunday March 31st.

Following the confirmation of the fixtures, Second XI Coach Owen Dawkins said: “With the 2019 season fast approaching, I’m delighted with the fixture list I have put together for Gloucestershire Second XI.

Once again, we are in the South Group for the 3-day Championship. There has been one change to the group, seeing the MCC Young Cricketers moving from the North Group. We will be starting our season with a two-day red ball friendly away to Somerset but quickly turn our attention to white ball cricket, with the 50 over competition starting earlier than in previous years.

Along with our six ECB 50 over competition games, we have some exciting early season 50 over and T20 matches being hosted by Rockhampton CC and Bath CC. We will be playing against an England Under 19s Development XI, coached by former Gloucestershire and England Cricketer Jon Lewis. We will also be competing against Scotland A and Ireland Wolves (A team) who are currently playing against Sri Lanka A.

Our first 3-day friendly game will be at Bristol CC starting on 30th April against Glamorgan, with our first 3-day Championship fixture at Rockhampton against Middlesex.  We are also looking forward to returning to play at Clifton College over their half term week in a 4-day game against Worcestershire in May.

Later in the season we will kick off our home ECB T20 campaign at Rockhampton against local rivals Somerset. Losing in the T20 semi-finals last year was tough and we hope that we can go a step further by making it to the final and hopefully winning it.

For those that come along to watch us last season, your support is always greatly appreciated. For those that haven’t popped down to a Second XI game, it would be great to see you over the 2019 season. Here’s to a great summer both with the weather and on the field.”
