England Lions Beaten At Bristol County Ground
8 August 2014
England Lions slipped to a 22-run defeat by New Zealand A in the Tri-Series match played at the Bristol County Ground.
Back on the international stage for the first time in nearly a year after recovering from a serious back injury, David Willey claimed five for 61 as the Kiwis posted 282 all out in exactly 50 overs after winning the toss.
Jonny Bairstow also caught the eye, scoring a superb 123 from 115 balls, with 12 fours and 2 sixes, to help England recover from a poor start to stage a thrilling chase.
Dean Brownlie’s perfectly-judged knock of 115 from 107 balls for New Zealand ultimately proved the difference. England were bowled out for 260 in 47.4 overs, Matt Henry and Doug Bracewell claiming three wickets each.
