Difficult day for Gloucestershire at New Road
23 May 2013
Gloucestershire's batting was destroyed by veteran Worcestershire bowler Alan Richardson on the first day of the LV= County Championship game at New Road.
Richardson, who has so often performed well against Gloucestershire over the years, took a career-best 8-37 as Gloucestershire were bowled out for 237.
It was the third eight-wicket haul of his career – and his second against Gloucestershire – which eclipsed his previous best return of 8-46 for Warwickshire against Sussex at Edgbaston in 2002.
Hamish Marshall top-scored for Gloucestershire with 45 and there were other useful contributions from Alex Gidman (41), Benny Howell (36), Chris Dent (29), Jack Taylor (29) and Championship debutant Gareth Roderick (26).
But this was Richardson's day and the 38-year-old has put Worcestershire, who had reached 65-0 by stumps, in control of the match.
