David Payne selected in IG PCA Men's Team of the Year
30 September 2024
Gloucestershire seamer David Payne has been chosen in the IG PCA Men's Team of the Year for the first time in his career after an outstanding T20 campaign that saw him crowned Vitality Blast Player of the Year following 33 wickets across 17 matches in the competition.
Payne equalled the most wickets in a single Blast campaign becoming the most prolific seamer in the tournament's history, overtaking Hampshire's Chris Wood with his three wickets in the West Country derby final at Edgbaston.
He achieved 331 MVP points in 2024 thanks to his role in Gloucestershire's stellar T20 competition, adding to his six wickets in the 2024 edition of The Hundred where he appeared eight times for Welsh Fire.
On receiving the accolade, Payne said:
"I feel very proud to have made the PCA Team of the Year. I want to say a big thank you to the PCA who are such an incredible organisation and look after us all so well.
"Making the Team of the Year is a really special way to finish off an unforgettable summer."
Left-armer Payne will receive a personalised winner's medal from Mapping & Webb at the cinch PCA Awards on Tuesday 1 October.
Fellow Gloucestershire players James Bracey and Miles Hammond were unlucky not to be included in the team after fine seasons saw them ranked 13th and 14th in the 2024 PCA MVP rankings. Bracey was pipped to the gloves by Michael Pepper, whose two Vitality Blast centuries contributed to his 423 MVP points.
