David Payne called up to England ODI squad

31 May 2022

Gloucestershire bowler David Payne has been called up to England’s ODI squad for an upcoming tour of the Netherlands in June.

The call-up to the national side is Payne’s third, having previously been included in Eoin Morgan’s ODI squad for a series against Pakistan last summer, and in England’s T20 squad that travelled to the West Indies in January.

The uncapped left-armer is part of a 14-man squad for the three-match series in The Netherlands, which starts on Friday 17 June.

The tour is part of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League and starts a busy summer for England Men with Royal London Series against India and South Africa scheduled for later this summer.

Payne’s selection in the national ODI squad comes after he hit the ground running for Gloucestershire in the Vitality Blast. On Friday in the T20 against Sussex Sharks, Payne took three wickets for 22 runs in an impressive four over spell.

Speaking of his excitement at getting selected, David Payne said: “I’m absolutely delighted to get another opportunity to be back in the national team set up. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to be in that environment over the last year or so, and I can’t wait to link up with the squad next month.”
