Cowan To Return For Northants Game

19 August 2012

Ed Cowan will return to Gloucestershire for a one-off appearance in the LV=County Championship match against Northamptonshire at Bristol, starting on Tuesday September 4.

The Australia A captain, who made such a good impression as temporary overseas signing earlier this season, will replace Rob Nicol, who leaves to join up with the New Zealand squad after the Championship clash with Yorkshire at the end of this month.

Cowan is currently involved in the Australia A tour of England and intends to stay on for a while after it finishes as his wife, who is over here with him, is expecting a baby any time.

Gloucestershire Chief Executive Tom Richardson told this website: We are delighted that Ed Cowan is going to play for us again. We would have liked him to be with us untiil the end of the season, but he will be flying back to Australia after the Northants game.

"It's good that we are going to maintain our ties with Ed because he is a player we might well be interesting in signing again in the future,

"When Rob Nicol arrived we hoped he would be available for all our remaining games. But there are so many international commitments for overseas players these days that there is always a chance they will be selected by their countries."

Nicol has been chosen in the New Zealand squad for the Twenty20 World Cup in Sri Lanka and some T20 matchea in India as preparation ahead of the tournament.
