County Championship Preview | Gloucestershire v Yorkshire

24 June 2023

The County Championship returns on Sunday when Gloucestershire make the trip north to play Yorkshire in a crunch Division Two match.

The reverse fixture in Bristol was a complete wash out as the early season rain impacted both sides’ search for points in April. The Headingley fixture looks set to be the opposite with four days of sunshine predicted.

Team news

Dale Benkenstein selects a 13-player squad to travel to Leeds, with overseas pro Grant Roelofsen and seamer Matt Taylor coming in for former loanee Danny Lamb and Ajeet Singh Dale.

Singh Dale is unavailable for selection after suffering tendinitis in his right knee. The bowler’s workload is being appropriately managed.

Your 13-player Gloucestershire squad to face Yorkshire:

Graeme van Buuren*, Zaman Akhter, James Bracey, Ben Charlesworth, Chris Dent, Zafar Gohar, Miles Hammond, Joe Phillips, Ollie Price, Tom Price, Grant Roelofsen, Josh Shaw, Matt Taylor.

Last time out

Gloucestershire suffered defeat against Leicestershire after a positive approach on the final day in an attempt to set up a win presented the visitors with a chasable target.

Run-a-ball seventies by Colin Ackermann and Rehan Ahmed meant the Foxes chased down 221 to win with Glos only taking half of the required wickets.

126 runs and three wickets in the match by 22-year-old all-rounder Ollie Price was not enough to stop Leicestershire from winning by five wickets in Bristol.

Our opponents

Yorkshire sit one place above Gloucestershire in Division Two following their win away to Derbyshire earlier this month.

Skittling Derbyshire for 111 after winning the toss and electing to field, Yorkshire still had a fourth innings 95* by Shan Masood to thank as Yorkshire needed 215 to win on day four after Derbyshire hit 453/9d in their second innings.

Eight wickets in the match for Matthew Fisher took the former England man to 19 Championship wickets this season, a total he will hope to add to against Glos.

Last meeting

Glos v Yorkshire was abandoned without a ball being bowled in early April, with both sides taking five points for the abandonment.
