Club News - Ground Redevelopment Plans

8 March 2012

We have new plans for Nevil Road!

We are very pleased to officially announce our intention to submit a new planning application for the development of the County Ground at Nevil Road.

The redevelopment of the County Ground is designed to secure the future of Gloucestershire County Cricket Club (GCCC) in Bristol, provide new facilities to support the growth plans for cricket in the region and offer a venue capable of supporting International games.

Our new plans incorporate the feedback expressed on our previous application that was rejected by Bristol City Council in January.

We have listened and responded to concerns raised by the Planning Committee about height and scale of the development and have revised our proposals to take account of these comments, as well as addressing other concerns raised by our neighbours.

As such, the height of the central element has been reduced from seven stories to six and the development has been redesigned to ensure that we can retain 147 residential units and maintain the commercial viability of the total scheme.

We have worked hard to amend the proposals, whilst also delivering an opportunity for the Club that allows us to achieve our ambitions.

The plans still include our original ambitions to create:

• Capacity of circa 17,500 seats, of which circa 7,500 will be permanent
• A fit-for-purpose media centre
• General upgrading of facilities
• Business centre and conference suite

It is important to us that we hear what the local community and our neighbours think about our plans and are looking for feedback on the changes to help us finalise the proposals before submitting a new application.

Resident drop-in sessions will be held at the Club’s ground in Nevil Road on the following dates:

Wednesday March 14 3.00 pm - 7.30 pm
Thursday March 15 3.00 pm - 7.30 pm

There is also a number for people to call on which to find out more 0800 073 1047.
