Chris Puts A Dent In Cardiff MCCU Batting

22 March 2012

Chris Dent was the surprise star of Gloucestershire’s bowling attack on the second and final day of the friendly against Cardiff MCCU at the County Ground.

The opening batsman claimed 4-21 with his off-spin as the students were bowled out for 238 in reply to 406-5.

It had already been agreed that Gloucestershire would field throughout the day and Cardiff MCCU were 30-1 in their second innings when the game ended.

Trialist seamer Paul Muchall bowled 12 overs in the first innings for figures of 1-31 and there were two wickets each for Will Gidman and James Fuller, plus one each for Jack Taylor and Ian Saxelby.

Gloucestershire agreed to their opponents fielding 12 players. Skipper Alex Gidman was pleased with the efforts of his bowlers and team performance in general.

He told this website: “The two days provided a really good work-out for us and there were some good efforts from the bowlers today

“Paul Muchall looked strong and quite nippy and I was pleased with how the players stayed focussed right through the game.

“Chris Dent has been working really hard on his bowling through the winter and wants to be an option for us to send down five or six overs here and there.

“He also wants to bowl in one-day cricket so that’s also something we shall look at. As things stand he is an occasional bowler, but he is improving all the time.”

Gloucestershire entertain Glamorgan in a one-day fixture on Friday, starting at 11am. Alex Gidman is not playing and, with vice captain Hamish Marshall not yet back from New Zealand, the team will be led by Ian Saxelby.
