11 July 2012
BREWIN DOLPHIN CHELTENHAM CRICKET FESTIVAL
GLOUCESTERSHIRE COUNTY CRICKET CLUB v ESSEX COUNTY CRICKET CLUB
LV= County Championship – Day 1 of 4 – Wednesday 11 July 2012
Round Up for Day 1
After an unexpected morning of showers, the Brewin Dolphin Cheltenham Cricket Festival got underway at 1.00 pm. Gloucestershire won the toss and elected to bat. Play was abandoned at 5.30 pm following a heavy shower. At stumps, Gloucestershire were 147-2.
* Our first match of the Festival has been dedicated in memory of Martin Stovold. Martin was a former player of GCCC and latterly a valued member of Cheltenham College’s Geography Department and Housemaster of Newick House.
* Ed Cowan was presented his County Cap by Club Chairman, Rex Body.
* A giant screen has been supplied by LED Sport Europe and this is being used as an additional scoreboard. Gloucestershire County Cricket Club is the first County Club to take advantage of this initiative. This is a terrific innovation and the Club is extremely pleased to be part of this development, the possibilities of utilising this technology are endless. We have had a great deal of feedback, for example on font and colour, which will result in enhancements being made for our next match. However, it is the opportunities for the transfer of information in a variety of new forms that excite us.
* Nat West CricHQ - the cricket app, used by Gloucestershire Cricket, is powering today’s big screen that will be used throughout the Festival.
* The Nat West CricHQ app can be downloaded free of charge from the iTunes store or Google play. For more information visit www.crichq.com.
* A party of school children from Great-field Park Primary School, Cheltenham, spent the day at the Festival and had a wonderful time. They enjoyed a free coaching session during the morning and had the opportunity of meeting with a number of Gloucestershire players.
Looking ahead to Day 2
* The PCA will be holding their annual former players’ day – members and supporters will have a chance to meet the players during a signing session at the tea interval.
* The Cheltenham & North Cotswolds Region host their Festival coffee morning
