Alex Back To Face Netherlands

5 May 2012

Alex Gidman is fit to lead Gloucestershire in their opening Clydesdale Bank40 match of the season against the Netherlands at Bristol on Sunday, 1.45pm start.
The skipper had to miss the LV=County Championship match against Derbyshire at Derby after feeling a back problem in the warm-up.
But after returning  to Bristol for treatment he is ready to return to the side for their first one-day fixture of the new campaign..
Alex told this website: “I just felt a few twinges at Derby and it wasn’t worth risking playing at such an early stage in the season.
“The thought was that if I missed the game I would definitely be fit for the Netherlands match and that’s how it has proved.”
Gloucestershire are determined to improve their white ball cricket this summer after an encouraging one-day victory at Worcester in pre-season and Alex believes there will be a difference in performances over the coming weeks.
“One thing I am really looking forward to is our supporters seeing us field,” he said. “We have an extremely exciting fielding unit, which is an area we have been slack in over the last couple of years.
“We have done a huge amount of work on that side of the game and hopefully it will breed some confidence and a real buzz about our white ball cricket.
“It’s amazing how you can feed off good fielding and how it can have a positive effect on bowling and batting. We need to be more consistent and competitive, which I believe will happen.”
