Gloucestershire Cricket would like to welcome Julian Calefato to the Club as its new Lead Physiotherapist.
Julian brings a wealth of experience to the Club, following a number of years working in high level sports; including a recent spell on the County Cricket circuit.
Following his first week, we caught up with Julian:-
What were your first impressions of the Club?
It was great to see The Brightside Ground for the first time. It has a rich history and is fabulously situated against the background of the residential area of Bishopston.
I have been made to feel very welcome at the club and also by the local residents in the area.
What has been your most recent role and what did it involve?
I have been based in Loughborough for the past few years, where I have worked across a broad range of elite sports and also commuted abroad to consult with other International teams and athletes.
Last season I also worked in County Cricket.
Can you give a brief understanding of your work before this (above) and what aspect of your role you most enjoy?
I am both a Physiotherapist and a Strength & Conditioning Coach and have applied my skill set internationally across a variety of professional sports at the highest level. Some of the sports I’ve worked in are cricket, rugby, the America’s Cup, weight lifting, the Volvo Ocean Race and ice hockey.
I enjoy building relationships with people and contributing to their success both personally and on the sports field.
What are you looking forward to most about joining the Club and living in the area?
I am looking forward to contributing to a consistent winning culture at the Club so that we can bring home all those trophies with the purpose of inspiring our fans and our future cricketers.
So far I’ve also enjoyed the variety of pleasant and crafty coffee bars in Bristol and hope to frequent all of them in good time!
