03/05/2011

Gloucestershire 2nd XI played Glamorgan in a 3 day match at the Swalec on 27th – 29th April.

Glamorgan won the toss and elected to bat. The first session of play went Gloucestershire’s way and they had Glamorgan’s strong top order including the previous week’s match winner, the previous week, Jimmy Allenby 108-5. Wickets were shared between Jordan Price, Michael Beard and Graeme McCarter. The second session certainly went the way of Glamorgan scoring 185 with just the loss of 2 wickets. Gloucestershire young attack was depleted when Jordan Price sustained an injury which prevented him from bowling for the rest of the game. During the session Gloucestershire tightened up taking 2 wickets and saw Glamorgan declare at 344-9, leaving Gloucestershire 45minutes to bat at the close of play. We had done very well scoring 45-0 with Beard and Spencer both going well.

The opening pair continued the following morning session very well putting on an opening stand of 122 before Spencer was judged caught short leg. The first session ended with Gloucestershire on 134-1. As with the previous day we were definitely second best during the second session firstly Beard fell for 53 and then the middle order collapsed. Jack Taylor played very well for 60 and with some support from Charlie Walker and Sam Bracey Gloucestershire reached 278-9 with Jordan Price unable to bat. Gloucestershire closing 66 runs behind. Glamorgan came hard during the last session of the day and finished 85-1 and a good game looked in prospect for the last day.

Glamorgan scored 115 in an hour and half and left Gloucestershire a target of 266 in 72 overs. Beard fell at the last ball before lunch, with the score on 21. Gloucestershire were unable to mount any resistance and as with the first innings the middle order collapsed. Alex Spencer was the only batter who gave any resistance and he was the seventh wicket to fall by the 35th over. McCarter and Sam Bracey demonstrated some fight but they were unable to bat out the session and Gloucestershire collapsed to 122 all out half way through the last session.
