Gloucestershire County Cricket Club is pleased to announce that 3 Academy players have been offered professional contracts.

As announced last week, Graeme McCarter has signed a 2 year contract, which will see him join the squad as a full time player from next summer. 18 year old Michael Beard and 16 year old Craig Miles have also signed contracts with the club.

The signing of these 3 emerging players is part of the club’s long term strategy to rejuvenate the squad and form a platform for future success. The club continue to look to strengthen the squad and plan for some full time contract signing announcements to also be made.

GCCC’s Director of Cricket, John Bracewell said, “I am very excited about these signings. It is great to see our Academy system continue to produce players of this standard. The enthusiasm and determination of these players will be a great asset to the squad and their eagerness to learn and prove themselves on the professional stage should result in some exciting cricket. We are all looking forward to witnessing these players on their journey as they develop their skills.”

Bowling all-rounder, Miles has signed a 3 year contract; a 2 year summer contract which will culminate in a full time professional contract for the 2013 season.

Craig Miles said “I am delighted with being offered a contract. I would like to thank all the coaches at Gloucestershire for helping me get this opportunity and especially for David Simpkins for all of his time and effort. I can’t wait to get involved with the rest of the squad.”

Left handed batsman, Beard has signed a 2 year contract; a 1 year summer contract which will continue into a full time professional contract for the 2012 season.

Michael Beard said “I am really excited about the opportunity that has been given to me by Gloucestershire and I am looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead over the next few years. I would like to thank Owen Dawkins, who I have worked with over the last 4 years in the Academy. He has helped develop my game a long way.”

Graeme McCarter said, “I am delighted to be offered a full time contract with Gloucestershire. I worked really hard this summer with bowling coach Stuart Barnes and with Jon Lewis and training was really intense, but it has all been worth it now. I am ecstatic and can’t wait for the opportunity to play professionally."
