Academy reports vs Frocester CC & Milfield School

07/05/2010

The GCCC Academy had 2 further fixtures in April. Here are the match reports of both matches from Academy Director, Owen Dawkins:

April 24th vs Frocester CC

For the second time this season the Academy played a strong Frocester CC side, this time in a 45 Over game. On this occasion the Academy turned the result around and came out on top in another good game of cricket.

Frocester won the toss and elected to bat first. Louis Gegg again provided the back bone of the Frocester innings and batted very well making 105 not out and guiding them to a total of 244. The main strength in the Gloucestershire bowling came from spinners Dawson, Banerjee and Jack Taylor all bowling well and causing the batsmen problems.

In reply the Academy got off to another solid start putting on over 50 for the first wicket. Rob Woodman (34) and Michael Beard (21) then both fell in quick succession, with Dawson also falling early. The Academy were struggling at 63 for 3 and looking in trouble.

Jack Taylor came to the crease with different ideas and continued in his good form with the bat (91 not out) and partnered by Karan Kumar (59) the proceeded to steady the ship then take the game to the opposition. Both batsmen struck the ball very well and played excellent shots on their way to a stand of 159. Kumar fell with just 13 runs needed but there were still 10 overs remaining. When Banerjee joined Taylor they saw the game off without losing another wicket bringing the Academy home with 8 overs to spare and 6 wickets still in hand

We were again looked after very well by all at Frocester CC and I would like to thank Nick Trainor and every one else at Frocester for organising both fixtures.

Sunday 25th vs Milfield School

Unfortunately there was no result in this annual fixture against Milfield School as we were hit by adverse weather towards the back end of the First innings

Losing the toss the Academy were put in to bat on a wicket that looked hard but green and had been covered due to the rain around.  The academy made there way to 199 with no major contributions before the rain hit and the game had to be abandoned.

I would like to thank Richard Ellison and Milfield School for hosting Gloucestershire Academy and as always providing a fantastic opportunity of the Academy to play there.  Hopefully next season we will get better luck with the weather.
