Jack Taylor Blog From Australia
Jack Taylor has been turning in some exciting performances playing club cricket in Australia and has written to update Gloucestershire supporters on his progress.
The young all-rounder has been excelling with bat and ball, as well as enjoying a lot warmer weather than his team-mates back at home.
Jack writes: "I think I've found my second home. Melbourne is an incredible place! My time here so far has been amazing. Everything from the cricket, the beaches, and the coffee shops!
I've come out here for the full season to play for my club side Glen Iris. We play in the Eastern Cricket Association and the cricket is played hard. So far we have come up against some tough opposition.
"We are now joint top of the table with three more rounds to go before the finals, so I'm pretty confident we can go all the way and win the grand final.
"From a personal perspective in terms of results on the pitch, I'm very content. I am leading run-scorer in the competition with 485 runs at an average of 53.89, including 210 versus Surrey Hills, which broke the league record, and 122 off 67 balls against the joint top side in the last one-dayer before the Christmas break.
"My bowling has also been going well for me. I'm second in the competition with 18 wickets at an average of 8.17, with an economy rate of 1.87.
"I'm out here with Benny Howell and we have dedicated our weeks to hitting the gym four times and having four cricket sessions, built up of drills, video work and match scenarios. We also attend a yoga class once a week to help with relaxation and flexibilty.
"We trained hard up until Christmas, then had a well deserved three-week break where we spent a lot of time down at his parents’ house on the peninsula, mostly on the beach or in their pool.
"Over the break we went to the Boxing Day Test. between Australia and Sri Lanka It was an absolute spectacle - 80,000 people in the MCG watching in 35 degrees of heat is something I want to see again, not from the stands, but being out there in the middle!
"Last week we went to watch the Aussie Tennis Open. We got to see Andy Murray dominate his second round match and then Maria Sharapova prepare for her game, which made for pleasant viewing! Now we are back in to our training, both trying to get our sides in to finals, which is looking likely.
"Hope all is well back home, and hope you won’t be too jealous of my tan when I report back in March! "
