Chris Can't Wait For Cheltenham
28/07/2010
Chris Dent is eager to experience the special atmosphere of the Cheltenham Festival for the first time.
Gloucestershire's England Under-19 batsman has never even been to wach a game at the College Ground so it will all be new to him when this year's Festival begins with a Clydesdale Bank 40 game against Yorkshire on Thursday.
"I'm told it's the best part of the season and the pitches there are good to bat on so I'm really looking forward to it," said Chris.
"It's going to be an exciting period for the supporters and the players because we are challenging in both the 40-over competition and the County Championship.
"I'm looking forward to finding out what the Festival experience is all about. I'm sure there will be a special atmosphere for the games."
At the start of the season director of cricket John Bracewell stressed that he would not place too great expectations of the shoulders of Dent or fellow England Under-19 player David Payne.
But that has not stopped Chris establishing himself as a first team regular, something that has surprised even him.
"I didn't expect to play so many games so quickly," he said. "I put pressure on myself because I want to do well and score a lot of runs.
"The captain and coaches just tell me to play how I normally do and not to worry too much. They have faith in me and it's up to me to prove it is justified."
