Richard Coughtrie

12 Richard Coughtrie

Born: 1st September 1988

Role: Right-hand batsman / Wicketkeeper

Richard signed a two-year contract with the club in November 2010 and began training from January 2011. He is currently studying at Oxford Brookes University, but has reduced his semesters to allow him to be a full time member of the squad.

The wicketkeeper proved himself as a useful batsman while playing regularly for Gloucestershire second XI in the 2010 season. He scored several half centuries in both Trophy and Second XI Championship matches, including 74 against Glamorgan in the final match of the 2010 season.

Originally from County Durham, Richard made his first class debut for Oxford MCCC Universities in 2009. His first season with Gloucestershire saw him establish himself as wicketkeeper in the Championship side and play a succession of gritty innings under pressure.

He played in all 16 Championship games, initially as a batsman, and was also a regular in T20 cricket. As a result he was rewarded with the Young Player-of-the-Season award.
