Role: Right-arm off-break bowler

Legendary Sri Lanka spin bowler Muttiah Muralitharan signed a two-year deal with Gloucestershire to play exclusively in Twenty20 cricket during 2011 and 2012.

He quit Test cricket in July 2010 after taking a record 800 wickets and announced that he would be retiring altogether from the international arena after the following World Cup.

Murali joined Gloucestershire for the 2011 domestic T20 competition after playing in the World Cup for Sri Lanka and the Indian Premier League for Kochi. He made 15 appearances for the county taking 12 wickets and is returning for the 2012 Friends Life t20.

A World Cup winner with Sri Lanka in 1996 a losing finalist in 2007 and 2011, Murali’s one-day international career spanned nearly two decades at the top level and left him as the world's leading wicket-taker in both the major formats of the game.

In 133 Test appearances he claimed 800 wickets at an average of just 22.72. He also played in 12 Twenty20 internationals for his country.
