Born: Wellington 7th November 1980

Role: Left-hand batsman, left-arm fast-medium bowler.

James signed as Gloucestershire's overseas player for 2009, having spent a short spell with the club in 2004, and will fill the role again in 2010. He was Glamorgan's overseas player in 2006.

He made his one-day international debut for New Zealand in 2000-01, playing in two home Tests against Pakistan the same season. Now has 26 Tests and 66 ODIs under his belt.

Capable of swinging the ball prodigiously and a capable middle order batsman, who averaged over 50 in scoring 904 first class runs for Gloucestershire in 2009. James also took 31 first class wickets that season and averaged over 40 with the bat in List A games.
