5 Alex Gidman
Born: Buckinghamshire, 22nd June 1981
Role: Right hand batsman. Right-arm medium pace bowler
Alex was appointed captain of Gloucestershire for the 2009 season and spent four seasons at the helm before deciding to step down at the end of the 2012 campaign.
He made his Gloucestershire debut in 2001 and spent the 2007/08 winter in New Zealand representing Otago in the State Shield and the domestic Twenty20 competition, scoring a century against Central Districts at Dunedin and helping his club win the one-day tournament.
Alex made his England A debut in Sri Lanka in 2004/05 and was selected to captain MCC in a match against county champions Durham in Abu Dhabi as a curtain-raiser to the 2010 season.
The 2011 campaign saw him again lead Gloucestershire in all competitions, scoring 903 Championship runs at an average of 37.62, with a top score of 168. He topped the club’s CB40 batting averages with 463 runs at an average of 42.09 and repeated that feat in 2012 with 317 runs at an average of 35.22.
