Worcestershire v Gloucestershire

LV=County Championship

Division Two

Day Four at New Road

Jon Lewis and Vikram Banerjee ensured a draw for Gloucestershire at New Road with an unbroken eigth-wicket stand of 25 which, crucially, occupied 13 overs.

Rain prevented any play until 3.45pm but there was still the possibility of Gloucestershire losing the game after Chris Taylor and James Franklin were dismissed in quick succession.

Gloucestershire resumed on 189-5, with an overall lead of 46, and had added just six runs when Franklin pulled a delivery from Alan Richardson into the hands of Alexei Kervezee on the square-leg boundary, having made 23.

It became 218-7 when Taylor, on 30, swung across the line and was bowled by Richardson.

But Lewis and Banerjee used up enough time to foil Worcestershire, although it might have been different had Banerjee not been dropped at fourth slip by Vikram Solanki when on nine.

Gloucestershire ended the match by declaring their innings on 243-7. Lewis was on 16, from 48 balls, and Banerjee was on 17, from 57 deliveries.

Gloucestershire should have taken seven points from the game, but this has been reduced to five after two points were deducted for a slow over rate.
